The 5 most frequently asked questions about Vadalarm Rodent Repeller

Tóth Miklós A Vadalarm Blog szerzője 2016 óta

In this article we have prepared some answers for you. We have collected the 5 most frequently asked questions about the Vadalarm Rodent and Nest Repeller. Let's get straight to the point!

1.Can pets hear the ultrasound?
In the case of dogs, it is our experience that urban small-breed dogs absolutely cannot hear it, nor can mixed breeds and older purebreds. Only some hunting dogs have the hearing to detect ultrasonic alarms. We do not know of a similar pattern in cats, but feedback suggests that it is rare to find an individual that does. Cattle, pigs and other livestock are also unaffected by ultrasound.

2.Do rodents get used to the product?
The device emits disturbing sounds for animals, inaudible to humans, in the frequency range between 20 and 30 kHz. This is why neither rodents nor Nest get used to the noise, because the built-in electronics of the Vadalarm Rodent Repeller continuously and randomly change the frequency within the above described range, and the alarm sounds are not continuously emitted.

3.Can I use it in the engine compartment of my car?
As rabbits cause a lot of problems around cars and our rodent alarm is effective against nests, most people want to place the device in the engine compartment of the car, as close as possible to the affected area. However, there are two important points to note that we do not recommend this. Firstly, the rodent alarm is powered by 5V (via an adapter), while your car has a 12V system. While this would not be an insurmountable technical obstacle, it is a bigger problem that the engine compartment of cars is full of soundproofing materials that absorb not only engine noise but also ultrasound, i.e. they prevent ultrasound from propagating.

4.How do I install it?
Ultrasound should be thought of as light, because if you put a cabinet or a wall in front of the flashlight, it will not shine through. So, if it is impossible to place it behind anything other than a cupboard, then don't worry, it will be ineffective.

It is also important that it is placed at the height of the rodent's ear, i.e. not on a chair, table or cupboard, but on the floor. (The only exception to this is if you can place the device in a corner of the ceiling so that it can be tilted to "look" across the room.)

5.Should I buy a rodent alarm with battery or mains power?
The answer is simple and depends on your needs and circumstances. If there is no power outlet at the place of operation, obviously the battery operated device will be needed. Another advantage of the battery-powered version is that it can be diagnosed from a smartphone. That is, you can connect to your own Vadalarm Smart device, check the battery of your device, start the speaker diagnostics, look for your device connected if you can't find it. Also, you can request Dual Voice Performance for the battery version only.

If you don't need either the smart device diagnostics or the dual sound power and you still have a power outlet nearby, the mains-powered rodent alarm is the way to go.

Many people do not understand what double sound power means. "If rodents are deterred by frequencies between 20 and 30 kHz, how can the device be louder?" We get a lot of questions like this. We would like to clarify that Hertz and decibels are not related. That is, because the volume changes, the frequency does not. We point this out because it is our experience that the two are confused and often cause confusion.
