Vadalarm AutoGuard car marten deterrent in the engine bay

The Vadalarm AutoGuard car marten and rodent deterrent protects your engine bay from marten and rodent attacks with powerful ultrasound and light pulses. It also runs on its own battery, so you can use it easily even if you don't want to — or can't — connect it to your car's electrical system.

Vadalarm AutoGuard car marten deterrent in the engine bay

Works without wiring it in

Charge it, place it in the engine bay, switch it on — and one charge keeps it working for an average of up to 3 months.

Double protection in the engine bay

It deters with variable-frequency ultrasound and a strong blinking light, so animals find it very hard to get used to.

Automatically activated protection

It charges itself while you drive, then switches on automatically when you park — without draining your car battery.

Paw prints on the car

The footprints are just the tip of the iceberg

If you find tiny paw prints on the windshield or hood, you already know that a marten is hanging around your car.

On its own, that's little more than annoying.

The bigger risk is when the marten — especially in cold weather — climbs into the warm engine bay and chews the cables or hoses running there.

And you may not notice the damage right away.

Maybe the car won't start in the morning. Maybe a function stops working properly. And sometimes the problem only shows up while you're driving.

Then, besides the inconvenience, you also have to reckon with repair costs, lost time, and with certain failures even a road-safety risk.

So it isn't just whether a marten visits your car. The real question is what happens under the hood.

If the water-bottle trick had worked, you probably wouldn't be here

There are many ways to keep martens away.

Some people put water bottles around the car. Others put dog hair in the engine bay, use scent deterrents, or try various DIY tricks.

And if one of those works for you: great. You don't need another marten deterrent.

But if you still find paw prints on your car every morning, or you've already learned at the garage what a marten can do, then your car doesn't need a cheap fix — it needs a new part.

The Vadalarm AutoGuard was born from exactly that approach.

In the engine bay it combines variable-frequency ultrasound with a strong flashing white light signal.

It also has its own battery, so you don't necessarily need to connect it to your car's electrical system to use it.

Water bottles around the car — DIY marten deterrent method

Three operating modes

How AutoGuard works

01

Works without wiring it in

Don't want to touch your car's electrical system? No problem.

Charge AutoGuard via USB-C, place it in the engine bay, switch it on, and you're ready to go.

In this mode the device runs on its own battery and alarms with ultrasound and light every 5 seconds.

One charge lasts up to 3 months

This is especially practical if your car battery isn't in the engine bay. You don't need to run cables through the car just to use the deterrent.

02

Wired to the car, it can do even more

If you connect Vadalarm AutoGuard to your car's 12 V battery, it automatically switches to car turbo mode.

When the car's charging system is running, AutoGuard charges its own battery.

When you switch the car off, charging stops.

After 3 minutes, AutoGuard automatically activates itself at extra strength.

As soon as vehicle-side charging stops, AutoGuard no longer draws energy from the car's electrical system. It runs the alarm from its built-in battery for 1 month. So while parked, it doesn't drain your car battery.

When you drive off again, the alarm switches off and AutoGuard starts charging its own battery once more.

You don't need to switch it on and off at every start and stop.

03

Extra option if you park in a garage

If your car sits in a garage, AutoGuard can run standalone or even from a mains power supply via USB-C.

When you plug in the USB-C cable, AutoGuard automatically switches to mains turbo mode and alarms more intensively: every 3 seconds it emits ultrasound for 1 second while the white LED flashes rapidly.

Even then, power consumption stays low — less than 0.5 W.

This is also useful if you want to protect your car from both outside and inside — you can install one in the engine bay and place another in the garage.

What can AutoGuard do?

Also runs on its own battery

You don't have to connect it to your car's electrical system.

Charges via USB-C

You can simply charge it with a phone charger as well.

Alarms with ultrasound and light

Variable-frequency ultrasound is complemented by a strong white LED light.

Car turbo mode

From your 12 V car battery charging status it knows when you're parked, and activates protection then.

Runs only on its own battery

After vehicle-side charging stops, it draws no energy from the car battery.

Switches on and off automatically

In Car Turbo mode you don't need to toggle it at every start and stop.

Up to 3 months of runtime

In normal mode, under ideal conditions, one charge can last a long time.

Usable outside the car too

Via USB-C it can switch to mains turbo mode, so you can even place it facing the car.

Compact size

Ultrasound and flashing light in the engine bay

Why combine ultrasound and light?

Vadalarm AutoGuard doesn't rely on a single stimulus for deterrence.

The device combines variable-frequency ultrasound between 20–27 kHz with a strong flashing white LED light.

Experts also say the most effective way to deter martens is to affect several of their senses at once.

Both primarily work where they share the same space as the animal.

AutoGuard's job is to deter any animal that ventures into the engine bay with ultrasound and light stimuli. You may still see paw prints on the car.

What our customers say

The reviews below, verified by independent Trustindex, do not reflect the opinions of typical customers.

The main question is always: is it worth it?

Vadalarm AutoGuard costs 34 990 Ft.

As a car owner, you've probably already spent more than that to keep your car running properly.

You buy AutoGuard so that next time you go to the garage, the plan is preferably still an oil change — not replacing cables or hoses chewed by a marten for hundreds of thousands of forints.

The decision is yours. Is roughly the price of 5 litres of quality engine oil worth it to you to prevent the trouble?

Vadalarm AutoGuard

Frequently asked questions

Does Vadalarm AutoGuard guarantee that no marten will ever come to my car again?

No, we don't promise that.

AutoGuard is primarily designed to deter animals in the engine bay. Both ultrasound and light signalling work most strongly where you place the device.

Its goal is not to make the entire area around the car "marten-free", but to deter animals that venture into the engine bay.

So there can still be paw prints on the windshield?

Yes.

A marten can still climb onto the car. AutoGuard primarily works in the engine bay, so paw prints on the car alone don't mean the device isn't working properly.

Do I have to connect it to the car battery?

No.

Vadalarm AutoGuard has its own 2800 mAh battery. You can charge it via USB-C, place it in the engine bay, and use it without wiring it in.

If you also want automatic car turbo mode and charging while driving, you can connect it to a 12 V vehicle battery.

Won't it drain my car battery?

While parked, it runs the alarm from its built-in battery.

It draws energy from the car's electrical system only when the alternator or DC/DC converter is charging the vehicle battery. When that charging stops, AutoGuard charging stops immediately as well.

What if my car battery isn't in the engine bay?

That doesn't prevent you from using AutoGuard.

Charge it via USB-C, place it in the engine bay and switch it on. Normal mode doesn't need the car battery.

How long does one charge last?

It depends on the mode and the temperature.

In normal mode runtime averages 3 months. In sustained temperatures below 10 °C this can drop to as little as 1 month.

In car turbo mode expected runtime on its own battery averages 45 days. Below a sustained 10 °C this can drop to as little as 15 days.

If AutoGuard is connected to the car, it charges its own battery while the vehicle charging system is running.

Why is runtime shorter in car turbo mode?

Because in this mode AutoGuard alarms at a higher volume level of 3.

In normal mode it runs at volume level 1; in car turbo mode at volume level 3.

Why does runtime drop in cold weather?

The battery's available capacity is also affected by temperature.

That's why in sustained environments below 10 °C, runtime can drop to as little as 1 month in normal mode and 15 days in car turbo mode.

When does it switch on in car turbo mode?

When vehicle-side charging stops, AutoGuard stops charging its own battery.

It then waits 3 minutes and activates the alarm.

When the vehicle charging system starts again, the alarm switches off and charging of its own battery resumes.

What happens if the engine is running while stationary?

The switch isn't determined by whether the car is moving, but by whether the alternator or DC/DC converter is charging the vehicle battery.

So with a stationary car and running engine, the alarm deactivates if vehicle-side charging is active.

How often does it alarm?

Normal mode: every 5 seconds for 0.1 seconds, at volume level 1.

Car turbo mode: every 5 seconds for 0.1 seconds, at volume level 3.

Mains turbo mode: every 3 seconds for 1 second, at volume level 3.

What is the LED for?

The light signal complements the ultrasonic alarm.

In normal and car turbo modes it flashes once during every alarm.

In mains turbo mode it flashes at 15 Hz during the alarm.

Can I use it in a garage from mains power too?

Yes.

If the car is in a garage with a power outlet, Vadalarm AutoGuard can be connected to a mains power supply via USB-C.

It then automatically switches to mains turbo mode: every 3 seconds it alarms for 1 second at volume level 3, and the white LED flashes at 15 Hz during the alarm.

Power consumption is less than 0.5 W.

Will I hear the ultrasound?

Vadalarm AutoGuard operates in the 20–27 kHz range.

Human hearing varies from person to person, so especially in the lower part of the range we don't promise that the device is completely inaudible to every person under every condition.

Do I have to wire it in myself?

You don't need to wire it in to use it.

If you want car turbo mode, however, the device must be connected to a 12 V vehicle battery.

If you're not sure how, leave the connection to a qualified professional.

Can I use it in a 24 V vehicle too?

The included car connection is for 12 V vehicle batteries only.

Damage caused by other voltages is not covered by the manufacturer warranty. However, if your vehicle has two 12 V batteries connected in series, connect it to only one of them!

What if I can't decide within 14 days whether it worked?

If you contact us before the statutory 14 days expire and let us know you need more time, we'll give you another 14 days to try it.

That way you can have up to 28 days.

If you already want a longer period at purchase, you can choose a 60-day return period for +2000 Ft.
